The opening ceremony for the Beijing Winter Olympics is set for Friday, February 4, and will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock at 6:30 a.m. EST. Early events begin on February 2, and NBC’s first primetime show premieres on February 3. All events and coverage can be found on Peacock. What will be the mascot of the Beijing Olympics?

Bing Dwen Dwen, a wide-eyed panda dressed in an ice suit, is Beijing’s Olympic mascot. “‘Bing’ means ice and also reflects pureness and strength, and ‘Dwen Dwen’ represents children,” said the International Olympic Committee in a statement announcing the news. “The mascot represents athletes’ resilience and fortitude, and will help to encourage the Olympic spirit.”

The panda’s paw has a heart shape in it that symbolizes hospitality, and the vibrant colors around its face resemble ice and snow tracks. Bing Dwen Dwen is accompanied by the Paralympic mascot, Shuey Rhon Rhon, who the IOC describes as “a lantern child willing to welcome friends from all over the world.”

What events will be held during the Winter Olympics 2022?

Biathlon, bobsledding, curling, ice hockey, luge, skating (including figure skating and speed skating). Also, skiing is among the seven sports scheduled at the 2022 Beijing Olympics (which includes snowboarding and ski jumping).

Men’s and women’s big air freestyle, women’s mono bob (or single person bobsled), mixed team competitions in freestyle skiing aerials, ski jumping, and snowboard cross, and a mixed relay in short track speed skating have all been introduced for Beijing 2022. Mixed-gender events are one of the International Olympic Committee’s strategies for increasing women’s participation. Beijing’s athletes are expected to be 45 percent female, a new high for the Winter Olympics.

Mixed-doubles curling and alpine team skiing debuted at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. For four years following mixed-gender sports debuted in biathlon, luge, and figure skating. In addition, 6 additional events in swimming, track and field, triathlon, archery, judo, and table tennis were introduced in the previous 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, with men and women competing in the same groups.
